Designing and manufacturing concrete habitats for the ocean. Reef structures, mangrove root systems, living seawalls, and coastal elements engineered to give marine life room to return.
Engineering Habitat at Nature's Resolution
Healthy reefs, mangroves, and coastlines thrive because of their architecture. Every ledge, crevice, and channel gives life a place to settle, shelter, and multiply. As those ecosystems disappear, so does the structure the ocean depends on.
Traditional casting can’t recreate that complexity. Our Selective Paste Intrusion process can. Printing layer by layer at 2.8mm resolution, with no molds and no formwork, SPI builds the freeform geometry that real restoration requires.
For more than sixty years, the Kerkstra family has engineered concrete to last. Now we’re putting that discipline to work below the waterline.
From Concept to the Water
Restoration has long focused on rebuilding what’s been lost. We believe the next step is designing for what can thrive. Alongside partners like Oceans 2050 Studio, the design and delivery arm of the global Oceans 2050 initiative, we’re turning ecological science into habitat that can be manufactured and installed. Our first SPI-printed reef and mangrove root structures are already in the water.
Design-Led Restoration
Every structure starts with a question: how does this ecosystem actually work? Before a single layer is printed, our design team studies the forms that make reefs and roots so effective, from the branching of coral to the density of mangrove roots and the way water moves through both.
We translate that understanding into digital models, refining each curve, cavity, and surface until the geometry does what nature intended. It’s design that borrows from millions of years of evolution and makes it buildable.
